Driving in India ....A Management Lesson???

Internationally, driving in Indiis considered as one of the toughest jobs and many people like Russel Peters joke upon them a lot. Yeah it is true that people of India may not follow are the rules and lets not talk about the suggestions.  Lets go through some experiences of Indian driving what we do easily and which are ideally not supposed to be....

1) Making the use of GAP. If there is some gap between two cars, get ready a biker is gonna come in between.

2) In every driving institute some concepts of Stopping distance and Driving distance are taught, unfortunately, those remained as concepts theoretically for ever. By reducing these gaps we can make new friends on road.

3) Sticking to a single lane is considered as unskillful, because if you stick to a lane, there is no much use of steering being used and that is questioning your driving skills.

4)  If you are a biker and waiting for a signal just behind the stop lane, its no wonder you will make new friends before the signal toggles. When everyone else is waiting you find some enthusiastic people who try to cover as much as they can and become the first one to stop behind the signal.

5) On Roads, we value time like an athlete don`t even wait for the signal to turn green. We will be at-least 5 seconds ahead or at least movement should be made right at the 0th second.

6) As the worlds largest exporters of Technology, we adapt technology to the each and every cell of our body. Because of which we completely forgot the concepts of Hand signals. Hand Signals which are ideally to be used along with the electronic signals, these days use of electronic signals is considered more than enough.

There are several other examples which cannot  be explained but rather experienced once you are on an Indian Road.

If you take a deeper look at and each and every action being done on road, it reminds me  that i have been taught all of these concepts in some other way some where else. Where was it.... ??? Where was it.....?? Yeah i got it...did i hear it in a management workshop? Yeah seems to ... Let me see my notes of it. The takeaways of the workshop were,

1) Check Gap and get into them or fill them. In a managements perspective, market is never complete there are always gaps between what the customer expects and what we offer, the one who identifies and fills this gap is the one who is gonna lead in the industry.

2) Work as a team. Great companies build great teams before great products. For a good team to be built, there should not be a lot of hierarchical levels. Forget if you are CEO or a fresher entering the company, just work together.

3) Adapt to the situation, we live in a world which changes itself every second, so sticking to the same old procedures and ways may not work now. With ever changing world change yourself in order to be competent

4) Make the best use of the situation. This is quite popular, successful people make the best use of bad times in the market, they take that as an opportunity to get along or ahead of their competitors.

5) Act Quick. Be prepared for the right moment and hit the bulls eye with precision. It requires you to be prepared well before the right time.

6) Make the best use of technology. In the last half century our lives got imbibed with technology and many mundane jobs have been removed. The ones who makes the best use of technology will lead all the ways.

So all the concepts which an Indian Road teaches are the best and most valuable management lessons. No wonder why many Indian born are leading the giants of the world like Satya Nadella, Sundar Pichai are to name only a few.

So next time, if you want to learn and experience some great management lesson, do a visit to Indian Road, do experience it, observe it, i suppose it teaches you a new management lesson. After all, management is a race....and road is a literal example of it.

Happy Independence Day!!!!!

This is the title of a famous and a blockbuster hollywood movie and also the title of this blog post.

After a brutal colonial rule of The British, India is all set to fly on Aug 15 1947. From that day India celebrates Aug 15 as INDEPENDENCE Day!! Let me take my time machine and go back to my childhood. We used to be dressed white from top to bottom and carried a flag on our hearts with pride, not to forget also carrying a dark colored kerchief so that the white knickers remain white. There used to be march past in school for which we used to do rehearsals at least from a week before. Speeches about the glory of the nation, the independence struggle and the nation then and now used to be said in all the three languages. Though we could not empathize the pain of our ancestors at least we understood that there was some pain which has been overcome with a lot of additional pain. We kids used to call it is a Nations birthday and it is considered as a festival for every Indian. Thus we grew with secular and universal brotherhood roots since childhood.

Time flies, now i am an adult...for some it has turned out to be a holiday in the mid of the week. The nation now is moving towards pessimism. In a democracy what supposed to be a positive criticism is now turning into to pessimism. Every one complains about everything and trolls everything. Now people start complaining that only the day when every girl is safe, only every minority is safe etc that day should be considered as Independence day. Definitely there are problems in the country, everyone acknowledges it and accepts it, that does not mean that you can trash out all the progress that happened. You talk about harassment on women, i talk about empowerment of women. Things have drastically changed from independence. Now a working women is just another human being, before independence she was an alien. Things take time to settle. Probably you don`t know the situation before independence so you are complaining so.

On the other hand, i see one trolling saying that "India was better under British Rule".  That can also  be true in some aspects, but what are you failing here is "you". It is you the India. Here you are the citizen and you are the ruler, if you had the conscience and chose better leaders and if you were a honest and accountable citizen, then things would be different. Just because you have fallen while taking the baby steps you cannot complain that it was better in my mother` womb. You have crossed that time-frame and it is your responsibility to learn how to walk. It is not what you are made for... to carry you in the womb for your entire lifetime. Even a bird which gets everything in the cage, prefers and expects freedom where there is no guarantee for food and shelter. Don`t you have that little bit of sense which animals have.

Having trolled the trolls, i suppose there is no harm in accepting the mistakes, being optimistic and patient and working towards a better nation. You cant expect to run like Usain Bolt on your birthday. Accept your independence, celebrate Independence day and  make the best use of your Independence day.

On this occasion, i wish you a Happy Independence Day!!!! I know it is a late post, but had taken time to recover  from how my fellow beings are celebrating Independence.

Divide and Rule.... Works in more scenarios...

One of most important lesson taught by colonization is Divide and Rule. For all those who don`t know about it, it is a technique which has been used by west..especially by the British to get more and more colonies under its control according to this techniques people were divided on the basis on something, be it the case of religion, caste , region and what not.

Unfortunately, this logic of divide and rule is still continuing in its old colonies either knowingly or unknowingly. Most of the political leaders today still use the same technique to loot votes.

But this is a beautiful concept when you use it for each and every thought of yours. This is the technique through which you can avoid permanent bias towards a particular thing. This makes you to visualize every action as it is and analyze it individually and take decision accordingly.

For example, i see people who are permanent fans of a politician or a movie star or a celebrity. The moment you decide to take a side permanently, that is it you will lose your mental ability to visualize actions individually or decide what is right and what is wrong. You will be supporting that person what ever he does irrespective of whether he does good or bad. It is someway of having a your eyes blindfolded. There are cases even if the ruler admitted that he has done wrong but the followers did not admit just because they are blind followers.

On the other hand, dividing every action of a leader, into a small entity analyze it. Dig it deep(rule it) and decide if it good or  bad. This not only avoid permanent bias but also increases your analytical ability towards an issue. It helps you to choose a smart leader, to get the ways of a smart boss and you will be implementing the best of the techniques adopted from all around the world in yourself instead of becoming second of someone else.

Thus divide and rule in each and every though of yours.

Earth Rotates from West to East..... and also from East to West

Back in my schooling days, our social teacher taught us that earth rotates from west to east and that is the reason why you see Sun raising in east and sets in west.

Okay, enough of recollecting school geography. Recently, i had a conversation with a Chinese girl in Italy after a flight. It was a good experience with her as we mostly spoke about the topics which i am interested in these days, economics, politics, history and mythology etc. The topics in which girls are not much into and basically not so interesting topics, which are not be spoken with girls.

In our conversation, the moment i told her i am an INDIAN the immediate reaction was SMART. Thank the world for giving me this new identity and we started speaking about our work.

She is basically a teacher of Chinese language and my question was what the hell are you doing here in Italy?? She said there are good amount of people who are interested in Chinese language in Italy and there even more who are interested in Chinese art and architecture and do their research.

This was enough trigger for me to think and relate stuff. if you take the current state of world, the most advancing nations among the world are China and India. Japan is already an advanced nation which is already teaching the world. And on the other hand many are scared that China and India are going to be world super powers considering their numerous resources both horizontally and vertically,  i mean both in number and types. Now at this moment, the goods of china  and services of India are the ones ruling the world.

On the other hand, this was not the issue around a century back. Before an century the western world was highly developed, their technological advancement was stellar and their thinking ability was so good that they had to find new markets and raw materials to feed their industries. That is how the concept of colonization started and rest is history. If you take a sample from that point, many western countries made their colonies in the east and unfortunately the current eastern developing countries were sleeping then.

Lets go even back in our time machine.... Some thousands of years ago...this is the time when civilizations are just starting... the oldest civilizations of the world were China and India. They were the places of fertail soil, abundant water and what not, they were the places which had considerably good poppulation where in the other part of the world was hardly inhabitable. This is one of the prime reason why they are highly populous today. They taught the world the number system, an immense vedic knowledge, spiritual insights, tea, marshal arts .. etc..

So i see is a circular process, something of east goes to west and something of west comes to east. It happens always, just like earth goes round and round..just like they are days and nights at the same time on earth, there are times when one is sleeping when the other one is running. That doesn`t mean that the one who sleeps always sleeps and the one who is running is always running, may be you are sleep when he is awake.

Become Selfish to be Selfless

Selfishness is the one of the identity of Human beings in Kaliyuga.. and it is a matter which has to be accepted by a normal human being.

According to Oxford the meaning of selfish is "concerned chiefly with one's own personal profit or pleasure." So it is you and your own stuff. I would like to put some more stress or  weight on the word. "Your Own".

For example in our daily life we see altercations/quarrels/riots/wars between people. All these issues could be solved in a small logic. The logic goes like this lets take the case of an altercation between wife and a husband. The issue could be anything. But if both the wife and the husband feel that she is my own wife and the same is with wife as well, the issue could be solved easily. Yes, it is being selfish, the one which we are well-versed but putting more stress on the "OR" part in the definition of the selfish.

In a similar way lets take the case of quarrel between two groups of people with different castes and of the same religion. Here the concept of the different castes should be stressed less and same religion should be given more stress. While having the quarrel one should feel that i am fighting with some one of  "My Own Religion" rather than of a different caste.

In this manner if you see everyone you come across is related to you in one way or the other. If you don`t find a relation with every one whom you encounter, it does not mean that you are not related, it means that you have not figured out the relation between you guys. If you don`t find any relation, at least both of you are human beings living in the same planet. What else relation do you need?

This is the same thing which has been put in our vedas as "Aham brahmasmi" - meaning i am god. It is also mentioned that "Tvam Brahma" - meaning you are also god. Thereby he is asking us to see god in each and individual you encounter and also to you see god in yourself.

Sages extend this logic to with even more to a generosity and say, you have the same right on this world as that of an small ant. Infact mother nature has created both of us to coexist with the same right. Who has given you right to show your supremacy on it.

I would like to conclude stating the quote again that more selfish you become, you turn selfless.
